Plant Based Diet Essentials

A plant based diet is a lifestyle change that benefits the environment, animals, and your health. For those considering this type of diet it can be overwhelming when you start to think about all the things you need to buy at the grocery store. This page will go over some plant based essentials that every beginner must have.

I’m here to answer any questions you may have regarding plant based diet essentials.

I’ll also provide a list of items that will make your transition much easier and more enjoyable.

Let’s get started!

Books

The Complete Plant-Based Diet: A Guide and Cookbook to Enjoy Eating More Plants

So, you’re interested in switching to a plant-based diet but you have a lot of questions. The Complete Plant-Based Diet: A Guide and Cookbook to Enjoy Eating More Plants answers several of those questions, such as how costly it is, how to make the most of classic plant-based ingredients, and more. I had no idea how much you could do with tofu!

This book is perfect for beginners looking to switch to a plant-based diet. It’s also great for plant-based gurus who are looking for new recipes to master. It includes numerous sections, including one that covers the basics of plant-based cooking. The book also outlines how to make 115 delicious recipes from all over the globe, how to plan meals and store food, and how to host a successful plant-based dinner party!

This book is only $14.99, with the kindle option being as low as $7.31. It also fits in nicely with my collection of cookbooks. All you have to do is follow the recipes and enjoy hearty meals filled with vital nutrients.

The Plant-Based Diet for Beginners: 75 Delicious, Healthy Whole Food Recipes

The Plant-Based Diet for Beginners: 75 Delicious, Healthy Whole Food Recipes made me feel more secure in my choice of considering a plant-based lifestyle. I had no idea the incredible impact it had on the environment and was appreciative of the educational experience. This book, costing only $14, is full of valuable information about how a plant-based diet can positively affect animal welfare, the environment, and my overall wellbeing.

This book also contains 75 mouth-watering, plant-based recipes. It provides convenient shopping lists and a menu for plant-based newbies. I also greatly appreciated the provided steps on how to cook tricky plant-based staples like beans, grains, and similar foods.

On my plant-based journey, I also decided to go all or nothing, which meant substituting all animal products, like cheese. This book made my transition to plant-based cheese a little less daunting, providing delicious alternatives to foods like parmesan cheese.

Milk Makers

NutraMilk | Nut Processor Machine

Learning how to make plant-based milk was one of my favorite things about my new lifestyle. The NutraMilk Nut Processor Machine was a total game-changer and one of my most used products. My absolute favorite milk that I made was almond milk, which I enjoyed before I transitioned to plant-based, but I had no idea I could make my own.

Drinking a smoothie full of berries, bananas, nut butter, and nut milk is my favorite way to start the day. Not only did the NutraMilk help me make delicious almond milk, but I was also able to make almond butter with ease. Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before, it comes with a recipe book!

Making non-dairy milk and butter by yourself can be intimidating, but the NutraMilk recipe book was my faithful guide and helped me memorize and understand every step. I didn’t know where to start until I took a moment to read through over 200 NutraMilk recipes. Almond milk and butter is my favorite, but I also enjoyed learning about oat milk.

ChefWave Milkmade Dairy Alternative Vegan Milk Maker with 6 Plant-Based Auto Programs

The ChefWave Milkmade Dairy Alternative Vegan Milk Maker can help you make and enjoy six of the most popular plant-based types of milk on the market. The six settings have digital touch control, so there’s very little fussing with different buttons. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with this milk maker, you can enjoy delicious milk made of almonds, cashews, oats, soy, macadamia nuts, or coconut.

This milk maker is a little more budget-friendly as well, costing around $200. While it’s still a little steep, it’s a long-lasting and durable appliance that will ensure you stay on track with your plant-based lifestyle. My motto is that it’s always better to spend a little more than to choose a cheaper product, only to have to replace it later.

Yogurt Makers

Instant Pot DUO60 6 Qt 7-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker

So, I had no idea I was capable of making my very own yogurt in a pressure cooker. The Instant Pot DUO80 is a multifunctional wonder that’s an electric pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, yogurt maker, steamer, sauté pan and food warmer. All you need to make your yogurt is some of your favorite plant-based flavours and then you just have to hit the “yogurt” button, it’s that easy.

One of my favorite things about this appliance is that I was able to put it in my dishwasher! I don’t like to make a big mess when I’m cooking and preparing food, so simple cleaning was a major plus for me. I also used the same pot to make some fantastic vegan stews.

This appliance also doesn’t make too much of a dent in your bank account. It’s only around $70, and the fact that has seven functions means you’ll likely not have to spend on another appliance. I’m all about a versatile appliance that’s easy to use and clean!

Sutek Yogurt Maker Automatic Digital Yoghurt Maker Machine with 8 Glass Jars 48 Ozs (6Oz Each Jar)

While the Instant Pot was one of my favorite appliances, I understand that some may want an appliance that specializes in yogurt making. The Sutek Yogurt Maker is only $30, a great price for my new favorite hobby of making everything from scratch. It comes with 8 adorable glass containers so you can keep your yogurt fresh all week, and make different kinds!

If you do need a recommendation for your first plant-based yogurt recipe, I would go with coconut! Coconut has a natural rich texture and flavor that doesn’t leave you longing for dairy products. If you need another reason to start making your own, homemade yogurt doesn’t come with any added, harmful preservatives.

I recommend this niche appliance if your specific interest is making plant-based yogurt. All you need is your go-to plant-based milk and your favorite berries and probiotics. You can be like me and choose coconut milk, or you can go with almond, soy, cashew, or oat.

Blenders

Vitamix Explorian Blender, Professional-Grade, 64 oz. Low-Profile Container, Red (Renewed)

A great blender is essential for me, especially now that I’m enjoying my plant-based lifestyle. One blender I highly recommend is the Vitamix Explorian Blender, which helped me master some of my favorite vegan soup recipes. My favorites are black bean, sweet potato, and mushroom, even thinking of them now is making me a little hungry.

This blender is a little pricey, but it will last you for years and you won’t have to deal with the nuisance of replacing it. It comes equipped with 10 speeds, and you can make delicious plant-based soups, purées, sauces, and more. If you’d rather use it for sweet treats, you can enjoy a perfectly blended berry smoothie.

The 10 speeds let you make all kinds of foods. I was surprised to learn I could also make salsa with the chopping speed because I can’t stand finely chopping vegetables and I’m not very good at it! This blender let me make the most delicious salsa I’ve ever had, and when I was done, I was able to put it in the dishwasher.

NutriBullet ZNBF30500Z Blender Combo 1200 Watt, 1200W, Dark Gray

The NutriBullet is a more affordable blender capable of making anything you need. For example, when I was making nut butter with a milk maker, I couldn’t help but think a blender might do the trick too. I love milk makers for making delicious plant-based milk, but sometimes a familiar blender is what we need.

My favorite thing about this blender is that it comes with a travel container and a miniature blender. I am a sucker for getting more than one thing when I make a purchase! The travel container is great for smoothies on the go, and the mini blender is great for snacks like salsa, guacamole, and more.

This blender is around $120, which seems like a reasonable price for a durable, long-lasting blender to me. It can go in the dishwasher too, which is always good news to me.
